The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps is the US military program that provides financial aid for students who are willing to serve the corps after graduating from the college. Navy ROTC Scholarship Details
In regards for Navy ROTC scholarship, there are three major categories of scholarship, which include the NAVY, Nurse, or Marine Corps. Below are the explanations for each category:
ROTCH Scholarship – NAVY
For this scholarship, you have to enroll in the education programs that interest the Navy. So, there are three tiers, which mainly about engineering majors, academic majors, and cultural majors. Most of the money goes to the first and second majors. The required qualifying scores to be eligible for this scholarship are:
- ACT: 21 Math; 22 English
- SAT: 520 Math; 530 Verbal/Critical Reading
Note: after graduation, you will be assigned in various warfare communities that are in line with your academic degree.
ROTC Scholarship – Nurse
This one comes with the same qualifying score required for the Navy scholarship. The difference is that you have to enroll in nursing academic program. Note: after graduation you will be assigned in the Navy Nursing Corps
ROTC Scholarship – Marine
The marine scholarship requires you to have a proper physical condition for the Marine corps standard. To be eligible for this scholarship you have to pass the Physical Fitness Test (PFT), good record, and have the ACT average score of 22 and SAT accumulated score of 1000 (from Math and Critical Reading). Besides, after graduation you will be assigned as a second lieutenant in the US Marine Corps
Other general requirements
Aside of the technical requirements we mentioned above, there are several general requirements that you must fulfill. They are:
- First, you have to be a U.S. citizen
- You are at least 17 years of age
- Have a high school diploma
- Provide a complete transcript
For Navy ROTC scholarship, the whole application process can start as early as when you are on your junior high school. The deadline is usually in December. Visit the navy recruitment website for more information about the eligibility and application deadline.
The Navy provides both four-year scholarships and two-three year scholarship. The ROTC scholarship is one of a few scholarships out there that can provide you with almost anything you need during your college education. They cover full tuition fees, cover other mandatory educational fees, provide money for books, and even monthly allowance for each academic month. There are several exceptions, but in general the Navy ROTC scholarship is one of the best in the country.
Benefits to NROTC Students
Additional benefits are available to NROTC students through their affiliated universities, rather than directly from the NROTC program or the U.S. Navy. These benefits, such as on-campus room and board grants, are provided for informational purposes and are subject to change.
Boston University Students
For NROTC scholarship recipients, grants covering on-campus housing and dining plans are typically renewable for up to 8 semesters. Students are usually required to live in on-campus housing provided by the university. Besides, the grant amount typically covers standard room and dining plan costs at the respective university. For the most current information on these additional benefits, students should contact their universities directly.
Boston College Students
NROTC scholarship students at Boston College receive funding specifically for the mandatory meal plan, which can amount to up to $3100. However, funding for room expenses is not provided as part of the NROTC scholarship benefits at Boston College.
Florida A&M University Students
At Florida A&M University, NROTC scholarship students are provided with room and board benefits. The university offers a total of 15 room and board scholarships per year to the NROTC Unit, including both new and returning scholars.
Midshipmen in their first year (4/C) who meet the scholarship requirements (a 3.0 GPA with 15 credit hours passed) can retain their scholarship throughout their time at the university. Besides, the scholarship covers the cost of the least expensive dormitory on campus and includes the base meal plan. It’s important to note that the availability of these scholarships is contingent upon the university’s yearly budget and is subject to annual review.
Huston-Tillotson University Students
At Huston-Tillotson University (HTU) in Austin, Texas, NROTC scholarship students benefit from significant financial support. The NROTC Alumni Association and Midshipman’s Foundation award over $115,000 annually to students.
Additionally, the Mulva Family Foundation provides a grant of up to $12,000 per academic year to cover housing expenses for contracted students. Furthermore, NROTC scholarship recipients and college program advanced standing students receive waivers for out-of-state tuition fees at HTU. These financial incentives aim to support and encourage NROTC students in their pursuit of higher education and military service.
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Students
At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, selected out-of-state midshipmen receive annual Room and Board scholarships. Well, these scholarships vary in amount and can cover up to the full yearly assessed cost. For further information on these scholarships, interested individuals should reach out directly to the university.
Most in-state midshipmen, whether scholarship recipients or not, benefit from having their tuition waived via the Illinois State Tuition Waiver. In-state scholarship midshipmen have the option to use their NROTC benefits for room and board in conjunction with the tuition waiver.
Additionally, midshipmen often qualify for other financial aid programs such as the Children of Veteran’s Tuition Waiver and the AIM High Program. Moreover, these various financial aid options aim to support midshipmen pursuing their education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Villanova University Students
