Government Grants for Paramedic School
The first source you should be seeking is financial assistance from the government, preferably in the form of grant. I am sure you already know about the Federal Pell Grant, which is basically the most well-known grant program available in the United States. However, you do have to attend an accredited school or college. It is important to remember that the EMT Grant from the government won’t be handed down to hospitals. Therefore, we highly recommend you to contact your nearest community college and see if they offer paramedic program.
If you already have a school in mind, please do refer to the official website of Free Application for Federal Student Aid and use the “Look up a school code” search to see if the school is accredited. PRO TIP: When you are considering to apply for a Pell Grant, it is important to enroll in an accredited community college for the associate degree and at the same time obtain your EMT certification.
If you cannot get any support from your family for at least a year, you should get some kind of a proof (such as a bank note stating that your family won’t apply for any loan for your school) to increase your chance in getting the Pell Grant. The Pell Grant is a very important grant, because it can really widen your funding options. Students who are qualified for a Pell grant are usually eligible for a number of other scholarships or grants. Furthermore, grant and scholarship providers prefer students who received Pell Grant.
National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT)
The NAEMT provides up to $5,000 for professionals who are currently attending an EMT-Paramedic course. Meanwhile, they also provides up to $500 for those who are attending the EMT-B training. Upon completion of the certification, they can also provide you with $2,000 so that you can continue your education. Members of the NAEMT are eligible if they can submit a 1,000 words essay describing about the importance of the grant and the reasons they want to get the paramedic training.
Carlos Lillo Memorial Paramedic Scholarship
This one is an excellent need-based scholarship for paramedic students, as well as other emergency medical technician students. It’s one of a few scholarships that can give you a full tuition, as long as you are eligible. This program is a tribute program for a paramedic named Carlos Lillo. He lost his life during the September 11 attack on the WTC. If you have a big interest in it, you should write an essay, complete the application, submit a resume, and provide proof of financial need.
Bound Tree Legacy Scholarship
This scholarship is based on the parent’s job. The program is available for children of paramedics, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians. Up to $2,500 is available for each child depending on the academic program and achievements.
The Bryant Gladney Paramedic Education Scholarship
The Bryant Gladney Paramedic Education Scholarship offers financial support to students pursuing a career as a Paramedic. With a focus on community service and a commitment to emergency medicine, this scholarship provides four awards of $1,500 each semester.
For fall programs (August to December), applications are due by July 1st. Meanwhile, for spring programs (January to May), the deadline is December 1st. Applications open in May for fall programs and in October for spring programs.
Eligible applicants must be at least 18 years old and reside in the United States. They should have completed high school or obtained a GED and accepted into a Paramedic program at an accredited college, university, or non-profit organization in the United States.
The scholarship covers tuition expenses exclusively and is disbursed directly to the program’s Bursar. It cannot cover additional fees such as books, supplies, lab fees, or registration fees. Recipients must maintain a passing grade and complete the course to retain the tuition funding. In case of withdrawal or failure to complete the course, the full tuition amount is returned to the Bryant Gladney Foundation LLC. Proof of academic standing may become one of the requirements at any time.

The Labroots Graduate Research Scholarship
The Labroots Graduate Research Scholarship offers financial assistance to graduate students enrolled in accredited MA, MS, or PhD programs in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) fields. With a deadline of July 31, 2024, and one award available, this scholarship aims to alleviate the financial burden associated with conducting research at the graduate level.
Graduate research often incurs significant expenses, including equipment and software costs, which the institutions will not cover these stuff. Labroots seeks to bridge this gap by providing $1,000 to one deserving graduate student for research-related expenses during the Fall semester. As other merit-based scholarships, it requires applicants to demonstrate their qualifications and outline their research project in their application.

The Bobby Owen Memorial Scholarship
The Bobby Owen Memorial Scholarship aims to encourage careers in firefighting, law enforcement, or emergency medical services. It grants scholarships to students pursuing these professions. Open to residents of Prince George County, the Enon District of Chesterfield County, or Varina, this scholarship also welcomes student interns at the John Randolph Foundation, with certain exclusions for foundation trustees, employees, and their immediate families.
Eligible applicants must demonstrate an interest in studying or receiving training as a full-time or part-time firefighter, police officer, or emergency medical provider. They may also qualify if they are currently volunteering or have volunteered in these roles in the past. Or, if they are dependents of full-time or part-time professionals in these fields.
Additionally, students enrolled in such programs or courses are eligible to apply. Financial need and a minimum GPA of 3.0 are also the part of the consideration. With an award amount of $4,000 and a deadline of February 15, 2025, one scholarship is available through this program.
